Layers of fruit saturate the palate as the 2009 explodes from the glass with a heady blend of dark berries, plum, menthol, licorice and new leather. It is a particularly racy Sassicaia. Despite its enormous fruit, the 2009 is also quite closed and far from ready to show its pedigree. Sassicaia is arguably Italy's most famous wine, so it's always excellent when it lives up to its reputation.
